Breaking it’s own participation records, the 2024 Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling Race once again delivered the thrills, spills, and a few cheese-induced chills, marking it as one of the very best of its ‘rind’ over it’s 200 year history.

Held on the steep, lush slopes of Brockworth, near Gloucester, England, this, now centuries-old tradition, sees fearless competitors hurling themselves down a treacherous 180M (200-yards) long downhill in pursuit of a spiralling wheel of Double Gloucester cheese that gets officially launched down the steep grade.

As wild as it sounds, this year’s event was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the indomitable spirit of cheese enthusiasts and extreme sports lovers alike, facing twisted limbs and some broken bones in pursuit of cheese glory.

Beyond the sheer spectacle, the Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling Race has a surprising impact on the cheese world, placing the Double Gloucester cheese in the international spotlight, boosting sales and interest in artisanal cheese. Local cheesemakers Diana Smart and her son Rod, revel in the attention, with many reporting a surge in demand post-race. The race also fosters a sense of community and tradition amongst enthusiasts, bringing people together to celebrate a shared, albeit eccentric, cheese heritage.

The 2024 champions included Tom Kopke, Munich, DE (Race 1), Dylan Twiss, Perth, AU (Race 2), Abby Lampe, South Carolina, US (Women’s Race) and Joshua Shepherd, Gloucester, UK (Race 4).
